Thomas Tyllack - something about me


1954 born in Berlin

1960 - 1970 polytechnic secondary school in Berlin

1970 - 1973 apprenticeship as a wood carver in his father's workshop
Georg Tyllack was a sculptor, known for hiss sacral sculptures and portraits. He was also supervisor and head of the woodcarver guild. Among others, he was teacher of sculptors like Richard Hess and Michael Klein.

1970 - 1972 university-entrance diploma (Abitur) in the evening course at the community college

1973 - 1975 basic military service / 18 months

1975 - 1976 woodcarver journeyman in the workshop Noack (conducted in 2nd generation) in Berlin

1976 - 1981 studies at the Art Academy Berlin-Weissensee / KHB (interdisciplinary basic studies with later specialization in sculpture / ceramics

1981 diploma in sculpture
Practical diploma project: wall design (30 sqm) for WTK- Meissen, Mentor - Ludwig Zepner, artistic director of the Meissen porcelain manufactory

1981 - 1982 artistic postgraduate studies at the KHB in the department of ceramics

1991 - 1993 scientific assistant of the Senate Department for Urban Development and Environmental Protection, Department building and garden monuments
Task: inventorying of historical and art-historically significant gravesites in eastern Berlin
Focus: development of a systematics for the inventorying, study of sources of handwritten documents from the 18th and 19th century, search of site maps, building plans and other documents on the history of change and fate to secure a reconstruction true to original by the conservation authority.

Interruption of the artistic work:
1994 - 1995 commercial training for academics at the gaetan-data GmbH, graduating as subject specialist for operational organization.

Until 2004 characteristic for the work is the combination of metal and ceramic and the development of an typical "sign language" of painting and engraving technique which overlays the external shape

From 2005 preparations for the opening of the Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrasse with more than 3,000m² of exhibition space, opposite the Friedrichstadtpalast, opening on 8 June 2005

2005 - 2010 managing director of the Art Center Berlin Friedrichstrasse until its closure in 2010, organizing more than 100 exhibitions, frequently also as the curator of the exhibition

From 2006 intensification of contacts with the International Delphic Council / IDC (a global non-profit organization for the promotion of arts and cultures) and its secretary general J. Christian B. Kirsch

2009 initiation of 'art place berlin - forum for contemporary art', since June 2009 at the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz, exhibitions of painting graphics and photography

2010 initiation of the Delphic Art Movie Award, a short film competition for documentaries about arts and cultures, hosted for the first time by the IDC. The first award ceremony took place in March 2011 at the Palais at the Berlin Radio Tower.

Until today: participation in various projects and consultancy work for the IDC, organizer of exhibitions and activities as a curator at 'art place berlin'
